Hello all.
Did anyone else notice the lack of coverage of the 9/11 attacks on the regular news outlets this year. I was at work on Tuesday and turned on the television we have there to check out what I was sure to be a good hours worth of coverage remembering the worst attack on American soil. Instead what did I find? A story about the return of Britney Spears at the VMA's. Okay so I figured that they were probably just waiting until we got close to the time that the second Plane hit the towers to start there real coverage and this was just filler until it began. So I made it a point to take another look around 9 o'clock figuring that soon they would have to begin some kind of memorial coverage for those lost in NY, Washington, and Pennsylvania. But no. I saw a grand total of about ten minutes of coverage concerning 9/11. The rest of the coverage was on stupid shit like Britney Spears, and what fashions were in for this fall.
Now I by no means want 24/7 coverage of the events and memorials that happened to mark that day, but come on. 10 freakin minutes. What the hell is that all about. Needless to say I more than a little miffed at what I saw that day. Have we as a society truly fallen that far that we would prefer to see coverage of a skank like Britney Spears than take a few hours out of our day to remember the horror of that day and why the fight against these extremist Muslims, is so important. In case you hadn't noticed they want to kill or convert us all. Not just a few but all of us. Republican or Democrat. American or Australian is does not matter. If we do not fall to our knees and worship the way they want us to and follow the same moral code as them they will cut off our heads.
I weep for our country sometimes. I hope against hope that I am wrong about what I saw and that I just missed the coverage, but I do not think so. So as I leave you today think about what is important to you in this life, and remember that there is evil in this world that can not be bargained with or bought out, it can only be fought and destroyed. May god bless our troops and bring them home as soon as it is right to do.
Til we meet again.
Paul

I agree - the last person I give two $#!^s about is Britney Spears!! What SHOULD have been shown is how far we've come to defeat those who took the lives of our brothers and sisters that day 6 years ago. I pray that it would be enough to last more than ten minutes! For what it's worth, I don't think the lack of coverage has much to do with America as a whole. Media corporations only care about making money, and very very unfortunately, stupid things like Britney Spears are what bring in the ratings. It's all about priorities I think.
True, but if people would show that they cared more about 9/11 than Britney Spears these media outlets would be forced to show the coverage because that is where the money would be.
(Before I even get started - I apologize for rambling!)
You're absolutely right, and we were equally disappointed. After I got home the TV might have been on a total of fifteen minutes. We did catch a few minutes of a 9/11 tribute (probably the same few you saw), but after that it was just crap so we shut it off and talked for a little while about what we were doing that day. It's pretty eerie how well we both remember what was going on.
I know it's kind of a futile wish, but given the circumstances I hope that most people turned off their TV sets last Tuesday and gave their own personal respect to its memory. It is really sad that the media didn't take a moral stand and pay proper tribute to 9/11 instead of letting the flakes decide that we should have to watch Britney Spears stumble around half-drunk in her underwear. That's sick no matter what day it is.
In case you're interested, Eddie told me that on September 11, 2001 he was on-base in West Virginia when the first plane hit the WTC. Some PFC came and told him that the first plane had hit and he thought the guy was messing with him. Then the second plane hit and he and about thirty other Marines were glued to a 13-inch TV watching the footage for over an hour before they were dismissed. It was one of the few times they were allowed to go home early - I guess the powers-that-be thought the base was a possible target. Not long after that he was stationed to Jordan.
I was about 10 weeks pregnant with Makayla and had been dealing with a particularly bad case of morning sickness that day. I drove to work in my 1990 GMC Vandura. (yes, it was a certified Shaggin-Wagon, complete with curtains, carpet and a bed in the back .. but that's besides the point) I was listening to Howard Stern on the way to work and I thought he was joking. I drove all the way to work in half-shock, waiting for him to say he was kidding.. but he never did. When I got inside the phones were very slow (I worked at Foremost Insurance as a CSR) and everyone was practically glued to the TV set closest to our set of cubicles. They sent us home early too, since most people were leaving to call their families anyways. All I remember after that is driving home and getting gas across the street at the Shell station. About 20 minutes after I fueled up, the price of gas almost doubled. It was a huge mess.
Since we can't trust the media to give proper respect to 9/11, maybe we can all pay a small tribute here. I'd be interested to know how people remember that day and what they were doing...
I was at work myself. We had just gotten in a muriatic acid order and I was signing the paperwork when the driver said "They're bombing us!" After he told me what was going on I thought what many people did after the first plane hit, that this was just a terrible accident. Well as we all know not long after the second tower was hit and at that time I realized what was going on. Then the word came through that the Pentagon was hit and it was very apparent. Well needless to say that day was dead as a doornail as far as business was concerned but my boss would not let us leave early. So I did not see any of the coverage until about 6 o'clock that night. I just remembering sitting and listening to the radio and thinking how different the world was now and being scared to death for all those families in New York, Washington, and Boston.
